Problem Set 2
Do 11, 12, and 13 from Chapter 1 of Van Brummelen.
- For 11, you can use the radius of the Earth (6378 km) and the fact that Earth spins around once every 23 hours at 56 minutes. You have to figure out how the latitude of New York enters into it.
- For 12, Van Brummelen has drawn a great diagram which serves as a hint on how to proceed.
- For 13, you can pretend you view the Moon from the Earth’s center, and that the Moon’s disk is 384,400 km away from the Earth’s center.
